What are Composite Door U Value Ratings?

So what are U Values? Why should we be interested?

The U Value measures how well an item keeps heat inside a building. The higher the U Value, the more heat will flow through, so a good U Value is a low one, keeping the heat in and the bills down!

In October 2010 the government introduced new U value regulations, stating that all doors sold and fitted in England and Wales must have a U Value of 1.8w/m2k or less. It is 1.6w/m2k in Scotland. The lower the U Value the more energy efficient your door will be.

At Abacas we are proud of the quality of our composite doors and supply a U Value certificate with every composite door. Each door has the U value calculated for that particular composite door combination giving you an exact value. Each certificate also carries independent verification from BRE (Building Research Establishment).
